Using Beams
What is a Beam?
A Beam is essentially a piece of information from a website that is able to be sent to a mobile device. Wherever you see the symbol to the right next to information on the web, you can click on it and have that information sent straight to your mobile phone as an SMS.
Can I send a Beam to Myself?
You can send a Beam to yourself to conveniently record information or mobile urls. Just enter your mobile number. If you are travelling overseas please enter your country code as well.
Can I send Beams to other people?
You can send a Beam to any of your friends and they will receive it immediately.
Can I send Beams to more than one person?
You can send the same Beam to different people however currently you can only send one at a time.
What happens to my mobile number?
Your number is safe and secure using the BeamMe service. At no stage is your number available to, or retained by, web sites using the BeamMe system. We use a 128 bit secure SSL connection to encrypt and relay your Beam request to our delivery system.
By using this will I be opting into a paid SMS service?
No. You are not subscribing for any ongoing services. Beams are one-off user requested services, and you will not be sent any other messages.
Do I need to enter a country code?
The BeamMe.Info system locates the computer you are on using your IP address and pre-populates the country code, however sometimes this may be incorrect, check that the country code is correct if it isn't or if you would like to send the Beam to a different destination country click on the current country code to be presented with a drop down list of other countries. Select the destination from the list to get the right code.
My Beam didn't arrive, what happened?
If your Beam has not been delivered double check that you have entered the number correctly. If you are sending to another country please enter the country code. Also from time to time mobile networks suffer outages that result in messages not being delivered. If you believe your problem is something more serious please send us an email with a description of your experience and your mobile number using the support link on our contact form.
I recieved a second message with an advert, am I being spammed?
No, If you are in a country that does not support concatenated or multiple SMS messages your BeamAd will be sent as a separate SMS. You will only receive one message from the SMS sponsor per Beam. You have not opted into any lists by using a Beam. The cost of sending the SMS is paid for by the advertiser.
Can I send Beams to friends or colleagues overseas?
Yes, please remember to use their country code before adding the number. Click on the current country code to be presented with a drop down list of other countries. Select the destination from the list to get the right code.
The information on the Beam I received was not what was on the website, what do I do?
You can check the content of the Beam message before you send it by clicking the "message" link at the top left of the Beam Box. If you would like to alert us or comment about the content of a Beam use our contact page. Don't forget to include the URL of the webpage you are viewing.
