My Beam is not displaying, what's wrong?

You need to purchase a plan to enable your account. Also if you have exceeded your monthly plan allowance your Beams will not display.

My Beam is displaying the warning "Security Blocking Active", what's wrong?

If you see this warning this means you have not yet added the URL to your security settings panel. Please go to the 'Overview' page, choose the website affected, then click on 'Settings' . Here you will find the 'Security' section. Please add any URL or IP address that you may be using to serve the Beam from.

My Beam is displaying the warning "Blocked by Internet Security", what's wrong?

You are running an older version of Norton Internet Security than is compatible with BeamMe.Info, please upgrade to the latest version or lower the privacy settings within the program. This is only affecting Beams showing on your computer.

What is the best place to position a Beam icon?

Positioning a Beam icon is entirely discretionary. We recommend positioning the icon relevant to the content you wish to send.

Can I edit the content of my Beam once its on my site?

The code has been designed so that you can edit the content directly on your site. You can edit the caller ID and the message itself right in your own website code.

Can I use the same code in different locations?

You can use the same code in different locations and on different websites. Remember that when you have security switched on you must add the URL or domain name to the account in order for the Beam icon to be active.

Can I set who the message comes from?

From the Beam Generator you can set the caller ID, this tells the recipient of the Beam who the message is from. It can be text or you can use a number. People can reply to the message if you use a number. This can be useful for promotions where a text message needs to be sent to enter a competition or subscribe to a service. If you plan on having people overseas reply to the message remember to make sure you add the country code to the caller ID.

Can the user set themselves as the sender?

Yes, if you want to use Beams to allow your users to share content you can select the sharing option which adds a 'From' field to the Beam Box. The user can add their own phone number or name to the field and the recipient will see that as the SenderID. This has the added benefit of looking less like SPAM. If the sender does not enter their details then your chosen SenderID will be used and if that is not set then the message will be seen to be coming from BeamMe.

How long can the SenderID be?

The SenderID can be a maximum of 11 characters or 15 digits.

How long can the Beam be?

The Beam message can be up to 621 characters in length. This is 4 SMS messages. It could be more but we have decided to limit it to make it something a user would want to read. Your account can be set to limit Beam messages to be less than this length. The Beam Generator has an indicator that counts the characters you are using.

Are spaces counted?

Yes. Spaces add to your character count.

Can I use any characters?

Any UTF 8 characters can be used. However on some very old phones some special characters may display erratically.

How much do I pay for a Beam?

An SMS message is 160 characters long. Beams are charged according to the number of SMS that it contains. If a Beam has 320 characters then you pay for two SMS.

Can I save my Beam code?

On the 'Get Code' page you can save your most recent code in its window so that you can come back to it at any time. We do not however save the code in your account as it exists on your site. Once you understand the Beam code you will most likely stop using the code generator. It is however useful for counting characters. You can copy changed code from your site back into the code generator and the details will be displayed automatically including the character count.
