BeamMe.Info is a new SMS information service that allows companies to deliver free-to-user, requested information from their websites directly to customers mobile phones.
What is a Beam?
A Beam is essentially a piece of website information that has our code installed
so it can be sent to a mobile phone. Our service takes care of all the backend
work of making sure it gets to the right phone in the right format. All that
you see on a website is a small blue button next to the relevant piece of content.
When clicked, a box appears allowing the user to enter their mobile number.
The primary focus of BeamMe.Info is to give Internet users the convenience of being able to send useful information from the web directly to their mobile phones. We want the process for users to be free and so simple that it will become part of their everyday workflows on the Internet.
Why put Beams on a Website?
By putting Beams on a website publishers are adding value to their content or service. Allowing visitors to mobilize their website content, saves them the hassle of printing things out or writing them down. This extends the interaction lifecycle long after the visitor has left the website. There are obvious environmental benefits as well.
You can use BeamMe.Info in many countries, we have deals with all the major carriers that allows us to send information using most major global networks. The USA and Canada are exception here due to restrictions regarding premium SMS. As the recipient pays for the message, all SMS messages are considered premium and must be delivered from a short code. This places a big limitation on our system so we have chosen not to deliver Beams to the USA and Canada until we find a better solution.
Our technology allows anybody to add this functionality to their website without the use of expensive applications or working out agreements with aggregators. You just take our code and plug it into your site. All of the billing and reporting takes place on the BeamMe.Info website.
Why use SMS with all this new 3G technology around?
Nothing is as personal or widely used as SMS. SMS is the most commonly used mobile data technology and will be for many years. There is a growing feeling in the world of technology and the Internet that it is all moving too fast, that new technologies are being invented and implemented before anybody has a chance to figure out how they work. The most obvious place that this is happening is in mobile telecommunications. Everybody is looking for the next big thing when nobody even has a grasp on the existing technology. The only common mobile communication other than voice that everybody understands is SMS. That is why we have chosen it as the platform for our first mobile content delivery platform.
